i remember this being an assignment in one of my classes during college… creating a photographic tessellation.
at the time, it seemed so difficult… but today i have a different understanding of the digital composite images. when i was a photography student, the digital / social media world had not yet become what it is today… and a lot of my colleagues and i were not too keen on the idea of switching from film photography to digital photography. we were purists in love with the romance of black and white film photography and ansel adams’ zone system… and we also thought it was lame and pointless to do anything digital. it took a lot of convincing from my professors to get me to invest in a digital camera… but i finally {begrudgingly} bought one just before graduation. another hilarious truth – when i purchased my first apple laptop, they asked if i wanted to add built-in wifi and i remember being like, “ppffttt, why would i need that?!”
ha! – it’s wild to think about how much has changed in such a short time.
anyway, i think this snowy tessellation turned out pretty cool – what say you?!
this foto was taken by mistake. and even though it’s nothing special, i kind of love it.
although spring has officially sprung, and i plan on sewing some seeds in my garden this morning, i still wanted to share these fotos…
while the northeast was getting pummeled a couple weeks ago, we only received a little dusting of snow… and when i say a ‘little dusting,’ i mean just that.
it flurried down during the wee hours of the morning, and quickly melted by noon. i am glad i ran out when i did to snap a few fotos. this is the kind of snow i like – the kind that doesn’t last long 😉
it was just light enough to cover the trees and streets with a glimmering shimmer of white. unfortunately, some of the flowers and blossoms didn’t survive the cold… but nevertheless, it was pretty while it lasted.
nothing makes me happier than when i’m taking pictures. nothing makes my soul shine brighter and vibrate higher than when i have a camera in my hand. i am at my absolute best when i am capturing the world around me, through these eyes, through fotography. creating memorable images is what i do best. i am in love with fotography, and it is in love with me.
fotography is my absolute passion in life.
snow, however – is not. but we are working on establishing a healthy symbiotic relationship…
😉
i took my camera for a walk the other day… and goodness, was it slushy and wet. however, it was still cool to see all the snow in its many forms… the patterns the water creates and carves as the it melts is just fascinating to me!
continued from last week –
isn’t this wild?!?! sunken evil snow creature emerges… aaaaaahhhhh!!!
…
love the gradient effect…
literally a “mountain” of snow…
…and i took a ton of pics with my favourite iphone app, shake-it.
beginning with a shameless selfie 🙂
POWDER DAY!
so pretty. Continue reading
walking through the filthy snow-packed hills during x-games this weekend, i became inspired… and thus, i have begun working on an actual artistic series called “the dark side of snow” 😉
i’ve been taking my camera with me to fotograph such things, but i wanted to share these few i snapped with my iphone. do you ever stop to look at the details these old and dirty piles of snow create?! between the melting and re-freezing and various winds and plow trucks, snow forms from fluffy white flakes into slushy mixed-coloured mounds and stark white turns pitch black. it transforms from graceful to treacherous, from beautiful to ugly, from light to dense, from snow to something else entirely…
by the way, it’s almost time for mercury to go retrograde again… 😉
two delicious NBB brews to add to the list :
snow day – dark and rich and full of caramel notes…
accumulation – bright and hoppy with a crisp finish…
both brews celebrate the winter season, and the fanciful snowfall that comes with it. fanciful… how fun is that word.
😉
please drink responsibly… for real, though.
i mean, seriously. the temps have been beyond frigid lately and i’m wearing more layers and socks than any one person probably should… but we’re due for a heat-wave this week – we’re going to hit 32 degrees!!!
😉
brrrr… {but pretty!}
bbrrrrrr…. {but cool!}
bbbrrrrrrrrr…… {but happy!}
brr. {and it’s true!}
hope you’re staying warm out there. have a great weekend! haha, and my wearing-of-many-layers makes me think of this :
i’m looking forward to making a snowman this weekend.
i also want to thank those of you who have nominated me for an award. i’m not that familiar with how the award system goes here on wordpress, but i’m beyond humbled and grateful for the recognition! unfortunately, i can’t keep up with the nominations {there’s not as many as it sounds, i just don’t have time to respond right now!} but i wanted to extend an extremely warm thank you to lesley and juliem this time for the liebster award nominations – and i want to encourage you all to keep reading! i’m so grateful to have almost 400 followers, a whopping 10,000 views, and over 200 posts in less than a year. you all keep the fire lit under me and inspire me every day to do more and to be more.
a very sincere thank you. enjoy the weekend!
