{travel tuesday} — a walk across the williamsburg bridge

4 Sep

about 2 weeks before i left new york city, a friend suggested we take a walk across the williamsburg bridge.  “how often will you get to walk across bridges once you leave?!” she said, convincing me to go. i didn’t need a whole ton of convincing; though at the time i remember feeling really ready to leave new york, and it was hard to drag me out of the house at times… funny how that works, because now i miss the heck out of it! good thing i’m going back for a visit…

there are many messages throughout new york city – stickers, graffiti, signs, posters, strangers yelling things at you, etc.

the williamsburg bridge is no exception.  in fact, i dare to say it boasts the most messages of any place i’ve visited in the big apple.  i mean, the entire bridge is like a graffiti art gallery.  every inch of it is covered with something to see or read.  my camera got quite the workout…

stripes of colour cover the length of the bridge…

walk left, bike right…

drive below…

oops.

i love the lighting here… albeit, a major storm brewing…

i love this.

do you see the pattern here?!  and those crazy clouds?!…

LOVE.

a door!  on a bridge!

i don’t know what it is about this picture i love so much…

maybe it’s because this is right about where it randomly started POURING, and i mean POURING on us!!!  i remember my friend yelling, “where do we go?!!?!”  because there was just… no… cover… so… i just yelled — “i don’t know — RUN!!!!”

so…

we just RAN!!!!  i tucked my camera into the driest part of my bag, kicked off my flip flops, and… ran!

until, it finally stopped.  and we caught our breath, laughed hysterically as we looked down at our now drenched clothing and i stopped to turn around… and saw this :

a rainbow over manhattan.

i took it as a sign that it was all okay… that i could say goodbye to new york city on good terms… that she’d still be there for me, any time i needed her…

doesn’t make me miss it any less, though 😉

This is so incredibly awesome! That bridge empties onto Delancey Street in Manhattan, one block from the best Haunted House in NYC. Plus, I love the door and the rainbow! Are we saying that you ran barefoot the last part due to the rain? I love this blog and I miss you so much too!
