audrey michelle’s colourful DIY cleanse – DAY #1

16 Jul

welp, so far so good.  18 hours into my cleanse and i actually feel pretty decent… sleepy, but decent.

here are the colourful things i came home with today :

a few organic produce items for the cleanse :

– cabbage

– peppers

– celery

– carrots

– peaches

– avocados

– strawberries

– sunchokes

– english peas

– black plums

– kiwi

and the list goes on…

i had no anticipations of feeling lousy, as i do typically eat this kind of food anyway.  the real key for me was avoiding the coffee, alcohol, and that occasional entire bag of late july dude ranch tortilla chips.  oh man, those sound good right now…

this whole cleanse is really mind over matter, and i’m fully aware of that and it’s kind of the reason i wanted to do it – mostly to prove to myself i could!

after meeting with some friends at the mall and saying “no thanks” to their plate of french fries, i went to whole foods market and stocked up on the gorgeous organic produce in the above photo. {just a little side note – i’m considering doing a CSA soon – it saves so much money!}  i chose to do an organic only cleanse because well – for one, it’s healthier.  for two, if i’m going to “clean out” my insides, i don’t want ANYTHING in my body that isn’t natural and ethically produced.  no GMO, no pesticides, no chemicals, nothing i can’t pronounce, or sources i’m unsure of. only clean things going in this body 🙂

alright, so here’s what i had today –

breakfast :

after my 2 glasses of lemon water and yoga, i hit up the blender to make this smoothie only to realize i had no juice!  so, what this actually is comprised of is raw protein powder with frozen berries, bananas, chia seeds, and organic raspberry lemonade HAHA!  it was pretty tart, but i drank it anyway. tomorrow morning’s smoothie will be better 🙂

snack :

i had a banana and a spoonfull of honey as a snack before hitting the mall… and of course, tons of water.

lunch :

walked a good mile while there… which is always good, but it worked up an appetite for me.  after having a kombucha for a late lunch, i began taking some photos for the blog and cooking up my dinner.

snack :

i munched on some english peas as i continued drinking water…

more water, more water, more water…

thank goodness for my sodastream, so i can mix it up a little — feel like i’m having a martini or something 😉

dinner :

steamed veggie platter with squash, zucchini, swiss chard, green cabbage, and purple carrots. YAY COLOUR!!!!

around 3 more large glasses of water, i imagine at least 5 more trips to the bathroom, and then i’ll have some dessert and a hot cup of sleepytime tea before fasting through the night…

dessert :

organic red grapes and a black plum.  nature’s candy.

day one down!

It’s Anita, Anitka is the Polish term of endearment that I grew up hearing. It’s never taken when I’m looking for email id’s or user names, so it has followed me around lately!
Your blog makes me happy! Thank YOU for writing it!
