have you ever seen this crazy interesting fruit?!
it’s called rambutan. and it is by far the most bizarre-looking food i’ve eaten so far.
it almost looks ‘hairy’, but the outer shell is super tough, you wouldn’t think it would be edible!
as you may read, it is native to indonesia and they grow on trees. very exotic and similar to a lychee – which i also need to blog about 🙂
to eat a rambutan, simply squish it until the pod opens up…
i just kind of “popped” mine open with my hand… the skin breaks easily with pressure, exposing the fruit inside…
it’s almost transparent, and i was surprised to discover it had a little seed in the middle…
as i mentioned, similar to lychee in taste. not too strong, but mildly sweet and fun to eat! i am all about texture and the rambutan does not disappoint in that category!
have you ever tried one?! what do you do with yours other than enjoy them?!? 🙂
My first thought when I was looking at your pictures was lychee! Are these easy to find, because they look great!

I enjoy eating these and lychees when I’m in countries that grow them. Is it weird that I like to think of them as eyeballs as I pop them into my mouth?
