{FINALLY!}

28 May

my goodness has it been too long!!!

FINALLY Farmer Audrey has a garden again… it’s been almost 4 years (i think?!) and my heart was starting to hurt pretty heavily. as many of you know, gardening is one of my favourite things in the whole world and has been a source of joy and peace and mental health for me. so i was beyond grateful and thrilled when someone told me about a small community garden in my area FINALLY opening up this spring.

we’ve had such bizarre weather and the soil needed amending so my spring crop was a flop. however, this girl did not give up. last weekend i spent about 4 hours doing my thing and i FINALLY have some seeds in the ground.

here are some fotos i have snapped along the way thus far…

before and after – the development. so thankful and it’s so close to where i live!

one happy Farmer Audrey!

ordered a fresh new round of seeds from my favourite company in colorado – botanical interests. THE BEST!

don’t you just love the beautiful packaging?!

one thing i admire and appreciate about this company is they have never wavered on their packaging. the art is so unique and beautiful and they have never felt the need to “rebrand” and i just love that about them! it’s something i stand convicted about in my own marketing. why fix what’s not broken!? ❤

4 varieties of cucumber (of course, my fav)

4 varieties of tomatoes (second fav!)

3 kinds of peppers and 2 kinds of melons – which i have actually never tried to grow before so i am curious to see how they will do this year.

i’m also growing some new things like this on my patio :

i would love to add some of these to my homemade goodies collection…

i think some of this would be great in my bath salts too!

and i am grateful i do not have the “soap gene” when it comes to cilantro haha! i love the stuff, but have only successfully grown it once… so, fingers crossed!

i also purchased some plants at a local market – bleeding hearts and stargazer lillies – two of my most favourite flowers! and i have strawberries in a large container on my patio as well. and they currently have fruit! hoping the weather doesn’t drown them out. pics to come…

in the front planters i have tons of pollinator crops including milkweed, wildflower mix, cosmos, daisies, nasturtium, and adorable forget-me-nots. i repurposed these old bed frames to use as a trellis for the vining crops and also i want to wrap them with some kind of chicken wire to keep out the pesky squirrels who have already been making themselves known! eventually i may take two of the sides down (super easy to remove) and i put two sides on “backwards” because the frame opens like a gate. pretty cool, huh?! 🙂

truly i am so incredibly thankful for this opportunity! i have desperately missed getting my hands in the soil and growing my own food. it’s a rather small space compared to some of the others i’ve participated in, but there is room for growth and my plot is still a decent size (4 x 8 growing space). i plan to donate lots of food as well, but my main goal is to grow and preserve my food to sell and or stockpile for winter, etc.

STAY TUNED FOR ALL THE UPDATES! ❤

I envy your ambition and green thumb! The most I can manage is a handful of tomatoes, and maybe a couple green beans at best.

Thank you Audrey! I do garden as well, though not nearly as ambitiously as you. Our garden is quite large, so I’m always tending something, herbs, fast‑growing passion vines, and our fig, citrus and apricot trees. It all keeps me busy in a good way, and I love spending time out there.
