{thirsty thursday} — ch-ch-ch-chia… drink?!

14 Feb

happy thirsty thursday!  oh, and valentine’s day…

remember this?!

well this is the same stuff!

they are chia seeds.

these tiny amazing protein-packed seeds are full of awesome nutrients including fiber, antioxidants, and heart-healthy omega-3.  and while they make excellent “pet plants,” they also make fun drinks when added to liquid!

you may have started to notice chia drinks pop up all around your favourite health food stores. you can purchase the seeds in bulk or in packages online and i know you can pick them up at whole foods market.

simply add in a few teaspoons of the chia seeds to your favourite juice.  for my trial-run, i opted for orange juice… i also cut it with a little water.  i’d say about 70% juice, 30% water… i’m looking forward to experimenting more with different variations… stay tuned for more recipes as they unfold… 🙂

stir your seeds around to get them immersed in the liquid…

then cover if you wish and let sit in the fridge for at least a half hour.  chia seeds are similar to flax seeds in that they become gelatinous when combined with liquid.  they take on a softer texture, and are easily digestible.

one other thing i love – they don’t get “mushy” – so you can even leave this in the fridge overnight, or for a while!  experiment with the amount of seeds you prefer – they don’t have much of a flavour, but the texture varies depending on how many you add to the liquid mixture…

they are so fun to eat slash drink –  and you know me, i’m all about texture… it’s almost like drinking jello… a really super healthy non-gmo version of jello, with fun little seeds and nutritional properties… ya know.

ch-ch-ch-chia… drink!

yeahyeah… and happy valentine’s day and all that – i’m not big on holidays, but just for the record, i believe we should celebrate LOVE every day!

Oh my goodness! I’m so glad you posted this! I was once given a package of these seeds to make drinks with but the label was in another language and I’ve never found them since!!! Now I know what they are! Thanks 🙂
