{thirsty thursday – peach chia lemonade}

this may look a little bizarre to you if you’ve never heard of chia drinks… but it seems to me like they are all the rage these days…

peachchiadrink-1

you remember chia seeds?! “the pottery that grows” — ch-ch-ch-chia! haha – anyway, this is the same stuff.

peachchiadrink-2

it’s good on salads, in smoothies, etc.

chia seeds congeal when mixed with liquid, so they create this interesting and fun texture that i just love – but i admit not everyone does 🙂  the best part is chia seeds are loaded with fiber and protein as well as naturally-occuring good-for-you-in-so-many-ways omegas 3 and 6.  they’re kind of a wonderfood – the aztecs just loved chia seeds!

and i do too! 🙂

peachchialemonade-1

i mix mine with all kinds of random stuff.  this time around i used a peach lemonade that i bought on sale.

peachchialemonade-2

just pour some seeds in the liquid of your choice – i’d say about 3-4 tablespoons per 12-16 ounces?  you kind of have to play with it and see what texture is best for you.  keeping in mind you can always add more liquid…

peachchialemonade-3

shake {or stir] it up!  i like to use jars like this for everything, in case you haven’t yet noticed that about me 😉

then it sits in the fridge for an hour or so… or overnight, whatever.

peachchialemonade-4

and you get this yummy fun-to-drink beverage that’s full of all kinds of goodness and it’s delicious, too!

chia seeds don’t necessarily have a ton of flavour, they’re just the slightest bit crunchy and kind of have this jello-like quality to them… sounds weird maybe but i can’t quite find the words to explain it so just go try some for yourself!  and let me know what you think 🙂

you can buy them in bulk at most health food stores or online, as well.

have a grrrrr8 day!

Haven’t tried the Chia seeds yet, but hope I like them as they are a superfood. I picked up a bottle of juice at the grocery store and looked at it and pondered it and swirled it around and then put it back on the shelf. I didn’t buy it because I was afraid I wouldn’t like it and then I would waste it. I will have to be braver next time. Is it the texture (when it is in juice) that some people don’t like? Or the taste? I could always try it in a muffin or something else at first I guess. Thanks for the encouragement tho. I will work my way there soon. LOL

hey there, thanks for stopping by and taking time to comment. i liked your story – i see a lot of people doing that same thing at the grocery store… it can be intimidating trying new foods/drinks. i do believe it is merely a texture thing with the chia seeds. as i said it almost had a “jello” like consistency due to it congealing. but there is not much flavour to chia seeds so they really just take on the flavour of the drink you mix it with… you could just try the seeds on their own first so you know what you’re getting in to. i like to just sprinkle them in with a salad for extra absorption! let me know what you think if you try them!

I love my chia seeds in my yogurt. Personally I try to gobble them down before they expand. They are so good for you but I can’t do the gummy version… must stem back to childhood when oatmeal made me totally gag. Its a texture thing for me! I am glad you found a way to drink them though! 🙂 Cheers!

i totally get that. if it’s TOO much like that i feel the same way. for me i have to have just the right combo or it’s weird haha. i feel that way about oatmeal or cream of wheat… we ate it for like every meal it seems when i was a kid and now i can’t stand the texture of oatmeal or the like. so funny. i’ll have to try it in yogurt, what a great idea!! 🙂
