{champagne mangos — it’s like making-out with a piece of fruit!}

have you ever had a champagne mango?

not quite the same as your common mango, which are typically more oval-shaped with green and red hues to the skin.  champagne mangos start off green, but are yellow when ripe…

champagnemangos-2

the champagne mango is shaped almost like a tear-drop or in some ways to me it is shaped more like a nut…

champagnemangos-3

fun with shapes… 😉

champagne mangos originate from mexico… and they are just heavenly.

champagnemangos-4

the flesh is the same colour inside as a common mango, but i find their taste to be different.  and such a yummy creamy texture!

champagnemangos-5

their season begins in march and now is a great time to find them at their peak and typically ON SALE, which we love!

champagnemangos-6

as with all stone fruit, there is a pit inside.  it is as long as the fruit itself and about a half-inch thick.  slice off the end to expose the pit.

champagnemangos-7

then slice around it… you’ll get a feel for where it is – as it’s much thicker and fibrous than the flesh of the fruit.

champagnemangos-8

then, score the mango for easy eating…

i say it’s like making-out with a piece of fruit because… i mean, in this case, it kind of is… try it, you’ll see what i mean 😉  i was never very good at cutting a mango in slices, i just end up hacking the poor thing to smithereens. i have found that cutting and eating them this way is just way more fun… and easy.

champagnemangos-9

just devour that thing.  i bought a bunch on a one-day sale at whole foods and so i’m going to freeze some for smoothies… like the one i made yesterday

nom nom, kiss kiss

These are the best mangos. I discovered the others ones first (um, the green/red’ish ones?), and these are literally to die for. Great title btw. Couldn’t be more accurate.
