{drink the rainbow! – red-beet & antioxidant vitamix juice}

29 Mar

well folks, unfortunately i haven’t been feeling so great over the last few days… aches, pains, watery-eyes, stuffy-nose, sore-throat, the whole {nasty} bit… it’s okay, i will patiently let it run its course… but what better way to cure what ails me than to drink some colour…

MAGENTA, in this case 🙂

vitamix juice-1

– frozen mixed berries {about 1/4 cup}

– orange juice {about 1/2 cup}

– 1/2 fresh pear or apple, cut in half

– 1/2 large boiled red beet {could also do raw}

– 2 or 3 pitted dates {one of my favourite go-to sweetners}

– splash of almond or coconut milk

– squeeze of lemon or lime

– filtered water

i heart the vitamix. you just throw this all in and crank it on high until well-blended. then drink, enjoy, and watch your skin glow and your system restore itself!

have a great weekend! i’ll be taking mine nice and easy…

        no, and all my friends ordered Vitamix from QVC when they still shipped to Canada, but now that that ship has sailed, I’ve stubbornly refused because Canadian Vitamix pricing is much higher – I always love a steal of a deal, lol. But man Audrey, every time you blog Vitamix, it makes me want one more and more … you so such a great job, don’t stop with these posts!!

        wow dan! thank you SO MUCH for the confidence boost!! the vitamix company is growing at such a rapid rate, that i suggest you poo or get off the pot so-to-speak because it took mine almost 7 weeks to arrive due to high demand 🙂 of course, you can find them at costco i believe, as well… and how far are you from the whole foods? i know there are a couple in canada, and a lot of times, vitamix swings through for a demo in their stores and you can walk out with one. it’s SUCH an investment but honestly dan, there hasn’t been one day that’s gone by since i got it in november that i didn’t use it. i make a smoothie at least once a day… and seriously, nothing on the market compares 🙂
        damn, i should be a sales rep haha!

        i’ll keep up the posts, and you keep being awesome! 🙂

      … thanks for the suggestion Audrey, great idea. I love Whole Foods, although admittedly I don’t go as frequently as I once did, and I am on their emailing list … presently as a non-owner I’m relegated to popping in Crate & Barrel during mall excursions, hovering over their Vitamix display and staring (and drooling, lol) longingly … one day Audrey, one day! 🙂

    Boy, that sounds delicious! I get on these kicks where I just crave beets. Don’t know if that means I’m missing something in my diet or what, but I just love um!

      i crave them for the iron and the iodine. especially during that time of the month. i just read that beets also have anti-carcinogenic properties. i was like, COOL!

    What else could I use instead of dates? I am not a really big fan of them!

      hi there! thanks for stopping by and for commenting! you could add in a little honey or pear to help sweeten in place of dates. or even do dried figs or raisins. 🙂

        Uuuuu….will definitely try raisins or maybe dry cranberries? Ur welcome!! Love the concept of your blog! I am also obsessed with food and photography as you might have noticed in my blog….Furthermore I usually take more time setting up and taking pictures than actually cooking the food! LOL.
