have you ever seen this amazing vegetable?!?!
if you have spotted it before in the produce department, you may not have even known it was edible…
it kind of looks like something that grows on mars, right?! 😉
considered part of the broccoli family, romanesco is somewhat of a misnomer, because it’s actually part of the cauliflower family and should be cooked as such…
just look at this thing!
the symmetry – nature is so perfect.
i just think they are so beautiful and fascinating!
i simply chop them up and saute in a little of my favourite pasture butter…
there is a sweetness to romanesco that is lacking in regular white cauliflower. you know me, the more colour the better. and romanesco fits the bill perfectly in that category!
you can find them at health food store like whole foods market during their season. i just happen to stumble on one in early february, but typically you’ll see them in fall…
have you eaten this fun food and if so, what did you think?! how do YOU prepare it?
I need to find this! I have a recipe that I use for either broccoli or cauliflower, but this looks lovely!

for sure, well-deserved feature, too! i really do love your series. i support the openness of your subjects and i value that you found it pertinent to address this “issue” in a photographic medium. in fact, i wish you lived in colorado because i’d ask you about how to become one of your subjects 🙂 i’m happy to support and relate to fellow artists like yourself!! thank you for the follow!

i look forward to it!
and i can’t see how to respond to your last comment about being in colorado, so, i shall do that here. 🙂 anyway, my ultimate goal with this project would be to take it to a different state each month, do one or two groups, and have a local photographer in the area take it from there, and then have a site everyone can just add the results to. that would be awesome. so, if i have my way, i’ll end up in colorado at some point! 🙂
also, my dad has a house in dolores. it’s been about 8 years since we’ve all been back there. SO BEAUTIFUL, and soooo time to return!!!!

I’ve never seen these before! They are beautiful. The flowerettes look like a pictures I have seen of fractal geometric patterns.

on the wiki site, it actually comments on that. i am fascinated by this vegetable. i’ve seen other “coloured” cauliflowers before – orange, purple… but they don’t have this design. it’s brilliant, i just marvel at it… and then i savour that thing to no end 😉

I am about to start a screen-printing series and have been wondering what the muffins this crazy vegetable is because it is a fractal pattern (natural patterns found in nature) and I plan to reference it. I also LOVE cooking and I am intrigued at how they are used and how they taste, might have to try it soon.! 🙂
