{foto friday} – the empire state building, at night, and in the rain

14 Sep

these fotos are kind of old, back when i had just moved to new york – i’d been there maybe a year. and they were taken sans tripod.  i think it was in september – i didn’t anticipate the weather being as cold as it was. but did you know humidity works in the cool temps?!  holy crap yes it does!

i had some guests in town from colorado and they wanted to squeeze in as much tourism as possible.  the empire state building was always a go-to for me when i had visitors.  it never gets old for me.  even though i don’t like the heights, i like the view.  i took another trip up during the daytime with a friend, i’ll have to find those fotos.  will i pay 30 bucks and visit again when i am in the city in october?  mmmmmaybe not.  we’ll see.  it’s nice to know people with rooftop views – that’s like prime real estate in new york!

i took a lot of pictures, but many of them were blurry because i was shivering from the rain/wind combo.  they even blocked off the top – due to weather conditions.  but it’s always a good time with my homies :

completely cold and wet… and man, are they tall!  miss you E & G!

i also miss that hat.

i’m the short one…

the light pollution from new york city is crazy – look at all that colour-casting.  and i did some editing!

oh hey, new jersey.

times square/midtown…

i love my boy Geoff’s hoodie…

i also only brought one lense with me… so everything you are seeing is from a 50mm perspective… as they eye sees, did you know that?!

you can *almost* see my old apartment…

i heart you, new york.

Wow, there is like nothing going on in that one deserted picture (number 2 from the top). When I was there for 9/11 there were a ton of tourists trying to squeeze in during night. Not fun! How long ago was this? It actually is $25 now – way overpriced. 😉

hi laura, thank you for your comment! i think this was pretty late at night for one, and it was in late september i believe. it was so cold and rainy and that’s why no one was there! i don’t recommend doing it during that kind of weather though – it wasn’t that much fun, it was just memorable because i had my friends with me, and of course – my camera 😉

Yeah, I went up in April of 2011 for my first time. It was pretty cold and windy, rather annoying than enjoyable. So I know what you mean! 🙂

yeah… i’d like to go up during sunset or when the lighting is incredible and just enjoy the view instead of shivering 😉

I love your photos. Just returned from a trip to NYC two days ago and going up the Empire State Building at night was one of the highlights!
