nature’s medicine {food that looks like what it heals}

5 May

the other day, i was talking to a co-worker about how perfect nature is.  i mean, really.  we worry about it, but nature will be just fine.  it is perfect and cyclical and will take care of itself.  it is the human race i’m concerned about 🙂  we have to get it together, change the way we think about ourselves, our bodies, each other, our environment, and our food.  it’s time to evolve.

*climbs down off soapbox*

okay… so we were talking about food and nature and he was telling me that some foods look like the body parts they are good for.

ppssh, what?!  talk about intelligent design – check out some of these cool facts/similarities…

{by the way, i used this little presentation during the interview i had  earlier this week for a healthy eating position, that i didn’t get… which is for the best actually… because, well – i already AM a healthy eating specialist. and i thank you all for reading this blog!}

carrots look like the iris of a human eye – and guess what they are good for?  vision and eye health!

tomatoes have 4 chambers and resemble the human heart.  tomatoes are high in antioxidants good for heart health.

grapefruit, and other citrus – looks like women’s breasts and have been known to fight cancer cells in these tissue areas.

ginger looks like the stomach – and has been known to aid in overall tummy health and also helps with nausea or indigestion.

celery stalks look like and are good for the bones.  celery is 23% sodium, and so are our bones.

walnuts look exactly like the human brain – and are loaded with omega 3 fatty acids, which help brain function AKA make you smarter 🙂

cabbage is also good for the brain.

sweet potatoes (yams) – look like the pancreas.  these superfoods are good for diabetics and help maintain healthy blood sugar.

clams look like male testicles.  they have high amounts of folic acid and zinc in them, which have been known to increase sperm count.

avocados resemble the uterus.  these are also high in folic acid, which is good for reproductive health.  another cool fact – it takes an avocado exactly 9 months to fully ripen.

red wine looks like blood – it is also high in antioxidants, good for the heart which pumps good blood – also helps prevent blood clots.

some other cool ones i read but don’t have photos for :

– onions look like cells and are known to clear waste – also, they produce tears which cleanse the eye {and us, emotionally}

– bananas look like your smile – the b vitamins and other benefits aid in depression.

– kidney beans look exactly like the human kidney and help in its digestive functions.

– mushrooms look like ears – they aid in hearing.

– watermelon somewhat resembles a pregnant woman’s belly and can aid in morning sickness and heartburn.

and i recently thought of this one –

– garlic looks like a hand or fingers {when beginning to “open” into a claw-like shape – and garlic has been known to help with inflammation and/or arthritis
